Sustainability in the City of Basel
Ecologically-sound practices are of increasing importance in all walks of life, including the congress and convention industry. In Basel we have been firmly committed to ecological sustainability for many years.
Hotel guests receive a free Mobility Ticket so that they can use the public transport network free-of-charge for the entire duration of their stay - a key incentive in reducing private vehicles on the city's streets.
Furthermore, since 2001 the city has also had a scheme in place to achieve a 2,000-watt society. The aim is to bring down energy consumption from the current 6,000 watts per person to 2,000 watts. In 2010 the city of Basel was awarded the Gold standard European Energy Award for its exemplary energy policies for the second time.
